Public Policy Course【Master’s and Doctoral Courses】

The Graduate program in Public Policy fosters highly competent professionals with specialized knowledge and researchers who are adept at public policy planning that produce social systems of regional as well as municipal bodies and at the same time are able to operate those systems by incorporating problem solving skills with broad perspectives that were honed at administrative institutions and private organizations. In the Master’s course, the specialized fields of Economics, Law, Political Sciences, Policy Study and Sociology will be taught as foundation courses. In addition, we promote education and research on [1] examination of legal systems and policies regarding regional lives and labors as well as the prospects of a welfare society, and [2] examination on the function of public policies of local governments and the collaborative measures taken between residents and administrative management given the trend in decentralization. In the Doctoral course, we have put in place Specialized Research Demonstration for each specialized field in relation to public policy research and will ensure thorough group as well as individual guidance.

 

Welfare Society Course【Master’s and Doctoral Courses】

In the Graduate program of the Welfare Society Course, we will foster specialized professionals as well as researchers who are able to create, guide, and assist in the activities of the regional welfare system by bringing a high level of knowledge and skill sets with regard to welfare and human development in addition to being able to contribute to people’s lifelong development as we strive for a welfare society. The Master’s and Doctoral courses are composed of subjects on the foundation of each specialized fields such as Social Welfare Study, Sociology, Pedagogy, and Psychology. The Graduate course’s feature is the group-based guidance given by instructors of each field as well as the thorough individualized instructions given by teachers who belong to their specialized fields. The career path for students who have completed their Master’s course is serving as public servants, social welfare specialists, teachers as well as education specialists and as employees in the private sector. Students who have completed their Doctoral course will work as researchers, or as members with specialized skill sets, mainly as university faculty members.

 

Joint Research

In order to contribute to the promotion, dissemination and development of research with regard to welfare society and public policy, we have organized the Welfare Society Study Group as well as the Public Policy Study Group.

The Welfare Society Study Group periodically hosts Welfare Society Forums and has published its 13th periodical Welfare Society Study. As part of the Study Group’s achievement, it has published Building a Welfare Society (Author and editor, Kunihiko Fujita, Bunrikaku Publishers, February, 2000).

Through the cooperation with Kyoto Policy Institute, the Public Policy Study Group has been involved in collaborative research projects with Kyoto Prefecture as well as various other joint researches.

Furthermore, the Study Group has published its third Kyoto Prefectural University Academic Report, Public Policy (2012).
