Student Support

Reduction of admission fees, tuition fees or postponement of collection for privately financed international student

    The reduction system is applied for students who have high marks but has difficulty to pay tuition fees due to their financial circumstances.

First Semester

Payment amount changes when there is a revision in the tuition fees (sliding scale).

 

 

Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students (Japan Student Services Organization)

    Availability of scholarships varies depending on the year and the university, but a monthly stipend of 65,000 yen for graduate level, and a monthly stipend of 48,000 yen will be paid for the undergraduate level. In 2009, 10 students were rewarded and in 2010, eight students were rewarded.

 

Subsidization of Medical Fees

    The City of Kyoto partially subsidizes the medical insurance cost if the privately financed international student (Status of Residence "College Student" resides in Kyoto City (monthly stipend of 700 yen).

 

Tutor System for International Students

    This is a system where a student from KPU is selected as a tutor to assist in studies and daily living of international students who have just arrived in Japan or who have just been admitted to KPU.

 

Loan of Living Expenses System

    If difficulty arises to pay for tuition or medical fees, living expenses are loaned to assist in the financial circumstances of the international student under the following conditions.

Loan upper limit : 100,000 yen per person

Loan period: Within 10 months

Interest: No interest

 

Finding Lodging

  Through agencies, relatively inexpensive lodging or student housing that is close to the campus will be referred.

 

 

Searching for Part-time Job

    KPU helps students search for part-time jobs through Internet (KPU Part-time Job Search System) and job posting.

 

Infirmary

  To preserve and increase health which serves as the foundation for student life, KPU has established an infirmary and provides health checkup, consultation, and first aid.

 

Student Consultation Room

  KPU provides consultation services called "Consult Anything" which allows students to seek advice on student life or their future course. In addition, the university offers counseling services by clinical psychologists.

 

Harassment Consultation

   As a way to respond to sexual or academic harassment, KPU has set up Harassment Prevention Committee and has placed counselors at every faculty and student services.

 

Office Hours

    Each faculty and department sets up office hours, class supervisors and mailing lists to offer detailed academic consultations.
